Preliminary experience in pulmonary metastatectomy

چکیده
Results Our study included 21 patients who had lung metastases and were operated upon by thoracic surgeons. Females constituted more than 2/3 of this series. Mean age was 26 years. Mean follow up duration was 25 months. The commonest primary originated from the bones and rectosigmoid. Thirty five thoracic surgeries were required for those 21 cases. Twelve patients had one thoracic surgery, five had 2 surgeries, three had 3 surgeries and one had 4 surgeries. We used either VATS or thoracotomy in our lung metastatectomies. Only one third of the resected specimens were proved to be metastatic. No significant perioperative complications were reported in our series. No mortality was reported during the study period. Discussion/Conclusion Pulmonary metastatectomy can be performed safely either by VATS or through thoracotomy with acceptable results.

Metastatectomy prior to immunochemotherapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
INTRODUCTION We reviewed our experiences in performing cytoreductive metastatectomy before initiating systemic immunochemotherapy and tried to investigate potential prognostic factors for such an approach. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of 57 patients who received interleukin-2, interferon-alpha, and 5-fluorouracil immunochemotherapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma was cond...

The first surgical resection of single lung metastases was reported by Weinlechner in 1882. This metastatectomy was done for a discrete pulmonary metastases which was discovered during resection of a chest wall sarcoma (1). The patient died on the first day after surgery. One year later, Kronlein performed same operation successfully (2). During surgery of a recurrent sarcoma of the chest wall ...
متن کاملSurgery and chemotherapy for pulmonary metastases: long-term results from a combined modality approach.
Eighty-three patients underwent pulmonary metastatectomy as part of a combined modality approach between 1. 1. 1972 and 31. 12. 1988 and 80 were followed up until 1. 1. 1990 or until death, with an average follow-up of 110 months. The estimated 5-, 10-, and 15-year survival rate was 38%, 32%, and 22% respectively. Recurrent pulmonary metastases were observed in 60% of the patients during follow...

In a recent publication, Landreneau and colleagues [1] established several patient selection criteria for the resection of pulmonary metastatic lesions by means of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in subjects suffering from colorectal carcinoma and, also in this article, they rejected for metastatectomy those patients with endobronchial metastases. We must say that we respectfully di...
متن کاملResults of Pulmonary Resection: Sarcoma and Germ Cell Tumors.
Pulmonary metastasis occurs in as many as 88% and 80% of stage IV patients with sarcoma and germ cell tumors, respectively. Pulmonary metastatectomy may be the only means of rendering a patient disease free. Sublobar resection (wedge or segmentectomy), lobectomy, and pneumonectomy achieve complete resection. Bilateral disease can be resected via staged thoracoscopy/thoracotomy, median sternotom...
